Robert Wade was born in Halifax County April 29, 1789 ten months after Virginia became a state and the day before George Washington took the oath of office as the first president of the United States. Five Wade families were on the tax rolls of Halifax Co in 1789 - Hampton Wade [wife, Elizabeth Torian], Stephen Wade, Luke Wade [wife, Martha Stanley], Horatio Wade [wife, Sarah Wyatt] and Robert Wade [wife, Sarah "Sally" Boyd].

In The Wade Quarterly, Vol 4, Issue 3, Pages 60-64, Dec 1977, the lineage of Mrs Walter Myers contained information that Robert Wade, son of Hampton Wade, had three children by Elizabeth Bennet; 1. Diana Wade m. ???? Watkins 2. Hampton Wade (dec.) and Robert Wade 27 Aug 1815. [Note by LH: The designation of Elizabeth Bennet as wife of Robert Wade, son of Hampton Wade and Elizabeth Torian is an error. Even without other evidence, if the will of Hampton Wade listed his sons in birth order, then Robert was born after Peter Wade, who was born abt. 1782. Logic dictates that the second son could have been born no earlier 1783 and this Robert would have been too young to marry Elizabeth Bennet in 1898. On the other hand, Mrs. Meyers' information about Robert's having a daughter named Diana(h), who married a Watkins, and the information regarding the son named Robert agree with other sources. A son named Hampton, deceased, would be logical, but I have not found other sources for his birth. If Mrs. Meyer's information about Hampton, son of Robert, is correct, Hampton died before the 1820 census of Montgomery Co TN.
