Obituary from Harvard Law Bulletin, Fall 2000: Robert H. Tullis, Jr. ?52 of Groton, Conn., died February 9, 2000. He was retired president and chief executive officer of the Home Insurance Co. of New York. He was previously general counsel of the Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Co. in Springfield, Mass., which was sold to the Home Insurance Co. He also practiced law for a short time at Simpson, Thacher and Bartlett in New York. Following his retirement, he served for three years as provost of the College of Insurance in New York. Tullis was vice chairman of the American Insurance Association, a director of the Downtown Lower Manhattan Association, and a trustee of Beekman Downtown Hospital and the College of Insurance. He served in Europe during WWII with the Army?s 104th Infantry (Timberwolf) Division and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman?s Badge.

Obituary from The Westfield Leader and THE TIMES of Scotch Plains & Fanwood (NJ), Thursday, February 24, 2000, p. 10: Robert H. Tullis, Jr., 74, Attorney, Executive and Decorated Veteran Robert H. Tullis, Jr., 74, of Groton Long Point, Conn. died on Wednesday, February 9, at home. Born in Flushing, N.Y. on May 31, 1925 and raised in Long Island, he was the son of Robert H. and Dorothy Copelof Tullis. He had lived in Westfield before relocating to Groton Long Point in 1982. A graduate of Hofstra College and Harvard Law School, Mr. Tullis had practiced law for three years with the firm of Simpson Thacher and Bartlett of New York. After moving to Longmeadow, Mass., he became General Counsel of the Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Company in Springfield, Mass. When that firm sold its business to the Home Insurance Company of New York he went with the company in New York as Associate General Counsel. He retired as President and Chief Executive Officer. Following his retirement from Home Insurance, Mr. Tullis served as Provost of The College of Insurance in New York for three years. While in New York, he was Vice Chairman of the American Insurance Association, a Director of the Downtown Lower Manhattan Association and a Trustee of Beekman Downtown Hospital, The College of Insurance and the Williston Northhampton School of Massachusetts. After relocating to Connecticut, he served at various times as President and as a Director of the Groton Long Point Association; Chairman of the Board of Deacons of the Mystic Congregational Church and President of the Board of Trustees of the Mystic & Noank Library. Mr. Tullis served with the United States Army's 104th Infantry (Timberwolf) Division in Europe during World War II. He participated in the crossings of the Roer and Rhine rivers, the capture of Cologne and the final campaign across Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Agnes Stanton, whom he married in Amsterdam, N.Y. on July 3, 1954; two sons, Robert S. Tullis of Melrose, Mass. and Jonathan F. Tullis of Welches, Ore.; a daughter, Mary T. Engvall of North Canton, Conn.; a sister, Elizabeth T. Hagen of Vienna, Va., and eight grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted on Monday, February 14, at the Mystic Congregational Church, followed by interment at the Elm Grove Cemetery, also in Mystic.
