FATAL CAR SMASH

RIFLEMAN KILLED.

Tragedy, overtook a party of Cessnock riflemen on Monday evening when they were returning home after having taken part in the prize meeting at Tam-

worth. Four men, Robert P. Tindall, 50, of Weston, William M'Garvey, 50, of Kitchener near Cessnock, Fred Anderson, of Cessnock, and R. Smith, also of Cessnock, left Tamworth by car shortly before 6 o'clock, and at a spot, 28 miles from Tamworth, between the range and Wallabadah, the near side rear tire blew out, the car skidded, turned, and clashed into the netting along the side of a bridgeway, then capsized. Tindall, who was driving, sustained a fractured skull, and M'Garvey, who was riding on the driving side in the back seat, also sustained skull injuries Anderson and Smith, fearing that the vehicle might take fire, ripped away the hood and got the injured men clear, and I did what they could for them pending the arrival of assistance. A passing motorist hurried to Walla-bad way and got in touch with Tamworth Ambulance, and Superintendent Bowdler and a bearer left at once. They found the two injured men in a very bad way. At the request of the other two men, they were brought back to Tamworth, but just as the car reached Goonoo Goonoo, 14 miles from town, Tindall died. M'Garvey was admitted to hospital.
