Robert Tales' origins have yet to be established. His only confirmed sighting is on 16th November 1725 when he married Catherine Harrison at Granby in Nottinghamshire. Her father's will, written in 1725, left some money to be shared among the "children of my late deceased daughter Catherine Tales", suggesting that Robert and Catherine did have more than one child but that Catherine had died before 1744.
