Robert Rumelhart Obit. Robert was born September 16, 1937 to Troy and Myrtle Rumelhart in Menlo, IA. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School with the Class of 1956. Robert Married Roberta French in 1960. Robert and Roberta had two children, Stephen and Sherri. Robert and his family lived initially in Guthrie Center, then spent several years in rural Waukee, IA. Robert resided in Booneville, IA from 1985-2005. Robert gained employment from his knowledge of operating and repairing heavy equipment around the family farm. He was employed by Butler Trucking in Guthrie Center, Booneville, Sand and Gravel in Booneville, Penn-Dixie Cement in West Des Moines, and Hallet Materials in West Des Moines. Robert moved to Victoria, Texas in 2005, where he and Sandy (Grove) were married in 2007. Robert was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the lung with metastases to the bones, in the Spring of 2008. Despite radiation and multiple rounds of chemotherapy he lost his life to the cancer and its side effects on Thanksgiving Day, 11/27/08. Robert enjoyed woodworking, gardening and collecting antique firearms. He was an avid fisherman when younger. Robert is survived by his wife, Sandy of Victoria, TX; son Steve (Susan) of Coralville, IA, daughter Sherri (John Trost) of Booneville, IA, grandchildren Shevin and Kheila Irvin and Helen Rumelhart; sisters Freda Thompson (Jerry) of Des Moines, Norma Crandall of Adams, Massachusetts, Beverely Conley of Malad, Idaho; and brothers Jim (Pam) of Waukee; and Roger (Loretta) of Coon Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents Troy and Myrtle, and brothers Freddie and David.
