There is much discussion as to the parentage of Robert. I originally placed him as the son of Elder John Prince but upon further research I have now chosen to place him as the son of Reverend John Prince.

My reasons:

The education of Elder John Prince. There is no mention of Robert having received a formal education. If he had received a college education it is doubtful he would have chosen to be a farmer.

The custom was to educate the oldest son and if he were the son of Elder John he would have been the first born son.

The Noyes Genealogy states that all seven of Elder John's sons took to the sea and the records are clear that Robert was a farmer. He chose to build his home in Salem Village or the upper half of Salem which is farming country and some distance from the sea. If he had been a seaman it would seem probable he would have built in Salem Town or the lower part of Salem, where many men were seamen.

Many records state he was born in East Shefford, England while others chose Hingham, MA.
