Note

Robert Parmenter was born in England in 1621, and crossed the Atlantic to the New World in 1648, settling in the little community of pioneers at Braintree, Massachusetts, with his wife, Leah. Joseph Parmenter, eldest son of these parents, was born October 20, 1655, and died at the advanced age of eighty-two years. Benjamin Parmenter, son of Joseph, was born September 6, 1682, and about 1716 migrated to Newport, Rhode Island. Prior to that date a number of years, he married Hannah Bigelow, of Weston, Massachusetts. Their eldest son, Benjamin (2), was born December 16, 1712. John Newton Parmenter was the next in line, and his son, Azel Fiske Parmenter, who was born in 1786, was the father of the subject of this sketch (Biographical sketch of Judge Franklin Jay Parmenter).[5]

"[3675] Robert Parmenter was born about 1622 in England probably at or near Sudbury Co. Suffolk, perhaps son of Joseph as shown by various records and wills published in Reg., Vol. 66. He seems to be first of record at Braintree when he Married Apr. 13, 1648 Leah Wheatly, widow of John Wheatly and daughter of Martin & Rachel (_____) Saunders who was baptized at All Saints, Sudbury, Co. Suffolk Oct. 10, 1623. According to the shipping list when she came over with her father in 1635 she was aged 10, but she died Mar 24, 1706 aged about 86 according to town records. So Robert Parmenter's age at his death may not be accurate also. He died Jun. 27, 1696 aged 74 according to the town record. He was made freeman of the colony May 22, 1650. He was made deacon of the church 'in the room of Deacon Eliot'. He was chosen Dec. 10, 1677 and ordained Nov. 2, 1679. He lived near present Elm & South Sts., Quincy in 1652 when a highway was laid out through George Ruggles land and began at a point in the highway that led from Robert Parmenter's to Weymouth ferry, to begin about 20 rods from the southeast end of Robert Parmenter's barn. This was close to Martin Saunders homestead and may have been acquired from his father in law whom he had known in England. …
