Robert Moore’s origins have yet to be established. The age given when he died suggests that he was born around 1768. One possibility is that he was the Robert Moore baptised at Maidford in Northamptonshire (the village in which he lived as an adult) on 18th October 1772, son of William and Elizabeth Moore.

Robert’s first confirmed sighting is on 13th October 1800, when he married Judith Emery at Ladbroke in Warwickshire. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Maidford, about sixteen miles to the east. They went on to have seven children at Maidford between 1801 and 1816, although one died as a baby. Robert worked as a labourer.

Robert died in 1817, being buried at Maidford on 11th February 1817. He was said to be 48 years old. Judith survived him by 27 years.

This baptism is in the same parish in which Robert lived as an adult. His parents also went on to have a son called James in 1776, who also settled in Maidford, and had a daughter baptised there on the same day as Robert’s youngest daughter in 1816. The age is about four years out from that implied by his burial record.
