Judith Emery’s origins have yet to be established. The age given when she died suggests she was born around 1776, whilst in the 1841 census she indicated that she was born in Northamptonshire.

Judith’s first confirmed sighting is on 13th October 1800, when she married Robert Moore at Ladbroke in Warwickshire. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Maidford, about sixteen miles to the east. They went on to have seven children at Maidford between 1801 and 1816, although one died as a baby. Robert worked as a labourer.

Robert died in 1817, when he was said to be 48 years old.

The 1841 census finds Judith living alone in Maidford. She later went to live in Northampton with her youngest daughter, Harriet, who lived on Bath Street in the town. Judith died in 1844, having outlived Robert by 27 years. She was buried on 17th April 1844 at St Sepulchre’s Church in Northampton. She was said to be 67 years old.
