ROBERT VAUGHN MONTAGUE was born at Glosgow, Mo., April 14, 1867. He is the son of Caesar Rodney Montague and Fanny (Harrison) Montague, who had three other children, J.H., R.R., and Alice (Mrs. J.N. Hemenway of New York City.
Caesar Rodney Montague was the son of Robert Vaughn Montague, the first collector of the port of Mobile under Abraham Lincoln.
Fanny (Harrison) Montague (born at Glasgow, Mo. ; died March 21, 1891, at Glasgow) was the daughter of John Harrison and Pamela (Marr) Harrison.
Montague attended Pritchett College, Glasgos, Mo., receiving the degree of B.A. in 1886 before entering Yale Law School.
He was married at Omaha, Neb., January 26, 1896, to Miss Mary Octavia Bedford, a daughter of Jefferson W. Bedford, a wholesale coal dealer. They have one child: Robert Bedford (born November 7, 1896, at Houston, Texas).
Montague gave up his law practice in 1896 on account of failing sight. He has been engaged since in the investment banking business, also telephone and mining enterprises. Since August 17, 1901, he has been president of the Mexico Telephone Company. He has extensive interests in British Columbia and Manitoba. He has traveled all over the United States and most of Canada, also parts of Mexico. He is a Democrat in politics and a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Elks.
