    Rites Held Tuesday For Bob King

    Sorrowing relatives and friends assembled at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church to pay final tribute to Robert Vaughan "Bob" King, retired businessman and farmer. The rites were conducted the pastor, the Rev. L. K. Foster, assisted by the Rev. Sam C. Patterson of French Camp. The church choir accompanied by Mrs. Sallie Easter sung "Abide With Me." Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Barry Funeral Home. Members of the diaconate served as pallbearers and the elders were honorary pallbearers.

    Mr. King, who was 74, died at 1:45 p.m. Monday in the Okolona Community Hospital following an illness of several months. He had been in falling health since suffering a stroke several years ago.

    A son of the late Charles Richard King, land owner and druggist, and the late Mrs. Hattie Smith King, he was a member of a pioneer Chickasaw County family. He was born at Buena Vista and moved with the family in 1901 to Okolona where he lived the greater part of his life. He was educated in the local public schools, old A. and M. College, now Mississippi State University, and Davidson College at Davidson, South Carolina. He served with the Army during World War I.

    For a number of years Mr. King was connected with the Federal Land Bank at New Orleans and later dealt in investments. He also had large farming interests in this area.

    Bob King was active in the work of the Presbyterian Church of which he became a member at an early age. At the time of his death he was an elder, having formerly been a deacon. For several years he served as secretary and treasurer of the Sunday School and the church.

    He leaves his wife, the former Miss Nina Marion; three brothers, John D. King of Okolona, Charlie Hill "Dick" King of Jackson, Dr. Richard King of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. j. O. Walton of San Antonia, Texas and Mrs. P. M. N. Self of Marks. With the exception of Mrs. Walton and Dr. King, they were all here.
