Funeral services for John Dowd King, retired railroad clerk, were held at 2:00 p.m. last Thursday from the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lewis K. Foster officiating. Burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery with Barry Funeral Home of Okolona and National Funeral Home of New Albany in charge.
Mr. King 82, died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, in Okolona Community Hospital after suffering a stroke on Aug. 13.
A son of the late Charles R. King, planter and druggist, and the late Mrs. Hattie Smith King, he was born in Buena Vista and had made his home here all of his adult life. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War I, was a member of the American Legion, the Order of Railway Clerks, and was a Mason. He had served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church here for many years.
He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Laverne R. Reister of Newport News, Va., and Mrs. Robert H. Maxwell of Atmore, Ala.; two brothers, Charles Hill(Dick) King of Jackson and Dr. Richard King of Atlanta; two sisters, Maida Walton of San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. P. M. B. Self of Marks; and three grandchildren.
Officials of his church served as both active and honorary pallbearers.
