Robert Liddle Hutchinson was born on 3rd June 1844 in the city of Durham and baptised there at St Margaret's Church on 11th August 1844. It would appear that Robert was the son of Jane Hutchinson, who was married to a William Hutchinson, but who is not named on Robert's birth certificate, suggesting perhaps that William was not Robert's father. This is supported by Robert's baptism, which names both William and Jane as parents, yet gives "single woman" as the "quality, trade, or profession". There were clearly two couples called William and Jane Hutchinson at this time in Durham. It is considered less likely that this Robert belonged to Family:William Hutchinson and Jane Unknown (1) as they already had a son named Robert who was still alive in 1844.
