Robert Hopewell was baptised on 30th January 1692 at Granby in Nottinghamshire, son of John Hopewell and his wife Mary.

Robert was married in 1731, when he was about 39 years old, to Hannah Harrison. She was also from Granby, but they married under a licence which allowed them to marry at either Sibthorpe or Bridgford. Robert was described as a "faber ferrarius" on the marriage licence, or iron smith.

Robert and Hannah went on to have three children baptised at Granby between 1735 and 1742. There was also a girl baptised there in 1733 whose parents' names are not given who may well also be theirs.

Robert died at the age of 67, being buried at Granby on 29th November 1759. Hannah survived him by nearly 29 years.
