Robert Homes is not proven as the father of the Rev. William Homes. The only reference the Rev. Homes made to his father in his diary was that when the Rev.'s brother, John died in 1692 "he was buried the next day toward night in his father's grave in the churchyard of Donachmore." A likely candidate for his father is the ROBERT HOLMS, ruling elder from Donaghmore, who attended the Laggan Presbytery meeting at St Johnstown on 3 July 1678, per the minutes of the Laggan Presbytry.

Also to be considered are the following names from the Hearth Money rolls of 1665 from Donoughmore Parish: ROBERT HOMES of Killineur Estates (probably the same as Robert the Rulng Elder), WILLIAM HOME of Killineur Estates, and JOHN HOMES of Churchland.
