Robert Hulme of Reddish, husbandman, in his will dated 20 Aug 1640, bequeathed to his son Robert "my estate and interest," etc., "in the messuage in which I now dwell and which has been held," etc., "by my predesessors tyme out of mynd," hoping "my rigth worshippful master Edward Cooke esq. will dale mercifullie with him." mentions son Obadiah, his legacy of £10 being dependant on the death of a younger brother, to Samuel "62.8d. and no more in regard of the former great charges I have been putt unto in and about his education"... to Joseph, youngest son, under twenty-one, 40 pounds and all my books. Executors were his son Robert, and brother-in-law Hugh Johnson.S2
