On the IGI there is a Robert Hay born to William Hay and Janet Cairns in 1763 in Edinburgh. He seems to fit, but, as yet, there is no proof. William Hay and Janet Cairns were married in Edinburgh in 1762 They also had the following children Abigaell 1765, Mary 1770, James 1767, George 1768.
