Mary Baird married Sir Robert HAMILTON 5th Bart of Airdrie (1714-1756), son of Sir William Hamilton 4th Bart of Airdrie (b.1681) and Margaret, daughter of John Bogle of Sandyhills (Burke's Landed Gentry, 2001). Robert Hamilton was b. 11jul1714 at Bothwell, Lanarkshire, of William Hamilton and Margaret Bogle (Latter Day Saints). “Mally” married Robert Hamilton (1714-15may1756), professor of Anatomy and Botany (Glasgow Univ., 1742-6) in 1748 (Minute book of the Board of Green Cloth, matriculation albums, Glasgow University, web). Mary Baird, daughter of John, married Robert Hamilton 26apr1747 at Glasgow (Latter Day saints, R. Balfour, rootsweb). They had a son William, b. 6jun1748 at Glasgow (IGI).

Sir William Hamilton of Airdrie, 4th Baronet, b. 6mar1681, son of Sir Robert H. of Airdrie, 3rd Bart, educ Glasgow University. Ord 1709 to Bothwell, Lanarks. Died 25may1749. He marr 4jun1713 Margaret (d. 2apr1773), dau of John Bogle, portioner of Sandyhills, and had issue - Sir Robert, 5th Bart, Professor of Anatomy and Practice of Medicine (11jul1714-15may1756), etc. (Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae). Sir Robert Hamilton had a brother Thomas (d. 1781) whose grandsons were William Hamilton (1788-1856), philosopher, and Thomas Hamilton (1789-1842), author of “Cyril Thornton” and friend of Michael Scott (1789-1835, author of “Tom Cringle’s Log”).
