Robert Graham Sr. is of Scots-Irish descent. His ancestors of the Clan Graham most certainly came from the Borders of Scotland. A troublesome Clan, many Grahams were sent to colonize Northern Ireland at the "urging" of King James I in about 1606-1625. Starting about 1735, the first great wave of Scots-Irish immigrants to the American colonies came from Northern Ireland. Robert was born 1728 either in Northern Ireland or Pensylvannia; his exact birthplace is unknown. Robert settled in Donegal Twp in Washington Co., Pennsylvania at a very early day (1781) shortly after the formation of Washington County. A biography by Robert's grandson, John, states that Robert was a Revolutionary War soldier. Robert Graham and his wife, Mary ---(b. 1741, m. abt 1761 d. 1828) settled on a farm about 2 1/2 miles northeast of Claysville. Robert took out a commonwealth patent on 345 acres in 1785 called Mount Vernon. Robert raised 9 children, all mentioned in his will, which was written in 1 Apr 1813. The will was probated 8 Mar 1820. Robert died 23 Feb. 1820 and is buried in the North Buffalo Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
