Samuel enlisted in the Civil War for the North at age 18 (Private, Company B, 22nd OV2 Ohio Volunteers) He had an honorable release after fighting 3 years. He was in the hospital twice. He had chills and fever. He was wounded in his left hand and right foot.  He received a pension.=
