RRobert fought in the Civil War for the Union side at a Battle of Shiloh. He joined Company I of the 49th Illinois Regiment Infantry. He was wounded and then mustered out in 1862. He was in poor health when he came home. Annie died 8 Sep 1864 in Flora, Clay County, Illinois. Robert went to stay with his sister.
