Robert William Batson was born 18 November 1923 in Edith, Woods County, Oklahoma. He married Eudemia Fonceille Marshall, who was a widow by her first marriage to Paul Chisham, on April 12, 1948, at Las Vegas, Nevada. Robert and his wife moved to Washington for a year in 1948 while he worked for the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1949, they moved back to Redondo Beach, California, where Robert began working for Market Basket, a grocery chain, in Culver City.

Robert was promoted to Store Manager at the new Venice store in 1953, and in 1956, he was transferred to Riverside to open a new store there, then he was promoted in 1968 to Zone Manager.

While in Southern California, four children were born: Patricia Ann born 1952; Robert Jr. born 1953; Jacqueline Lee born 1955; and Ronald Wesley born 1957.

In 1978, Bob and Dee had decided that when Bob retired they would move to Texas because it was getting so crowded in California. They bought a home at Lake Kiowa and leased it out until Bob was ready to retire. Why Lake Kiowa? In 1938-1941, Robert was a Boy Scout and he attended a Boy Scout Camp on the Canadian River and that Boy Scout Camp was called Camp Kiowa. Remembering all the good things at Camp Kiowa, they had to find the community called Lake Kiowa.

In 1982, Market Basket was sold unexpectedly in California. Not as a chain, but each individual store was sold separately. At that time, Robert asked for and received a transfer to the Dallas Division of Kroger Food Stores.

Robert's wife predeceased him in 2007.

   Funeral services for Robert Batson, 87, of Gainesville will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 25th at Clement-Keel Funeral Home Chapel with his son, Rev. Robert William Batson, Jr. of Grace Baptist Church, Tahlequah, Oklahoma officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Monday prior to service time. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Batson died Wednes-day, July 20, 2011 at his residence.
   
   Robert was born November 18, 1923 in Edith, Oklahoma to Charles and Alice Batson. He served in the US Army during WWII. Robert married Eudemia F. Marshall April 13, 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a Manager for a Kroger Grocery Store in California before retiring. Mr. Batson was a member of First Baptist Church where he had served as deacon.
   
   Survivors of Robert Batson include daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Donald Brown of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert William Jr. and Fran Batson of Tahlequah, OK; daughter, Jackie Batson of Washington State, son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Wesley and Elsa Batson of Fort Worth; sister and brother-in-law, Icey and Roy Huddleston of Lake Kiowa; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eudemia Batson; parents, Charles and Alice Batson; sister, Iona Walker and brother, Loyd Batson.
