Facts and Events
Robert Bastock’s origins have yet to be established. The age given when he died suggests he was born around 1739. One possibility is that he was the Robert Bastock baptised at Chesterton in Warwickshire on 9th February 1740. Robert’s first confirmed sighting is on 2nd February 1761, when he married Mary Butcher at the church of St Nicholas in Warwick. At the time of their marriage Robert was living at Bishop’s Tachbrook, about three miles south-east of Warwick. Robert and Mary went on to have six children baptised in Warwick between 1762 and 1781, all baptised in the parish of St Nicholas there. Mary died in 1805. Her burial record does not say how old she was, but she and Robert had been married for 44 years. Robert survived her by nearly twelve years. He was buried at St Nicholas’s Church in Warwick on 26th January 1817. He was said to be 77 years old. Immediately before his death he had been living on Coten End, the main road out of Warwick to the east. References
