Advisory on Robert Adams

Several internet genealogies claim that this Robert Adams was the son of a James Adams and Elizabeth Elder of New Hampshire, but this is most likely not possible. The Robert Adams from New Hampshire died in New Hampshire abt. 1778, but this Robert Adams appears to have died in abt. 1749 in Pennsylvania, prior to his family's migration to Augusta County, Virginia. There are definitive records in Augusta County involving Robert's wife Elizabeth "Agnes" (some say Hubbard), and his sons George and John, as shown below:

• Vol. 1 - Patrick Calhoun vs. Parris and Adams.--John Parris and George Adams. Bond to James Calhoun, of Augusta, 9th September, 1754. Adams pleads that he was 20 years and 9 months old when bond was given. Agnes Adams, mother of George, testifies that he was 30 years old Christmas, 1763. She sent him from Pennsylvania to Virginia and wrote letters to her friends at Red Creek. (Note: this record establishes George Adams birthdate of 25 December 1733, and that his mother "Agnes" Adams was still alive in 1765).

• Page 291.--15th May, 1770. John ( ) Adam (Adams) and Agness ( ) to Joseph Foard, £32, 90 acres in South Mountain on west side of the main ridge. (Note: this appears to be land conveyed by John Adams and his mother, Agnes to Joseph Foard, perhaps land owned by John's father, Robert Adams).
