1857: On the March 2nd, 1857, wedding certificate of his son, Charles Western. Richard Western listed as an Inn Keeper.
Ian Stoyle writes:
".... looked at the Western Times for 1888 to see whether Richard's death was recorded in it. After checking two or three issues and deciding it hadn't been, I glanced up the alphabetical list of death notices and saw [in the 10 Jan 1888 issue:
MAY, Jan 6, at the Exeter Inn, Thorverton, Richard Western, aged 90
I assumed that Emma [May] would ask for a correction, and this duly appeared in the 17 Jan 1888 issue:
WESTERN, Jan 6, at Bullen St, Thorverton, Mr Richard Western, aged 90.
No funeral accounts, but this was uncommon anyway in newspapers at that time..."
