In volume 1, the author concedes Richard being born about 1588 and a brother of Stukely Westcott as claimed by some, but in volume 2, he changes his mind and says there is no evidence of this, believing the Richard born in 1588 was not the immigrant (see 2:394, part of which is cited here).

Appendix "EE" Richard Westcott, ab. 1612-1649-50

"There are records in New England of a Richard, William and Daniel Westcott in the 17th century. Whether they were closely related, authentic record is not available. By some, they are said to have been brothers. The statement by genealogists that Richard was a brother of Stukely Westcott is without proof. There was probably some twenty years' different in their ages."

"It has been suggested that the Richard who settled in Wethersfield, Conn., 1636-7, was born about 1612, ab. same year his wife, Joanna, was born, ..."

"William Westcott is said to have accompanied Richard to Wethersfield, but of him nothing more is known. There was a William Westcott in Westmoreland County, Va., in 1683 (see app. FF). Daniel Westcott was in Marblehead, Mass., in 1646, ..."
