Facts and Events
He made his Will dated 3rd February 1484/5 (Vol. 5, Folio 248),and proved on 17 Feb 1484/5, is described as of Warley. He desired his body to be buried in the chuch or churchyard of St. John the Baptist at Halifax, and gave his best beast to Master Richard Symes, the Priest, for his mortuary. He also bequeathed to the church of Halifax a certain book called " Pupilla Oculi," no doubt to find a place in the library there, for use of such worthy churchmen and other good folk who could read. To a house of Friars at Tickhill he gave the sum of 2s. 6d., and this would probably be to the Austin Friars, who had a Religious House at Tickhill, one of 32 in England at the dissolution. In the archiepiscopal register at York, under date 18 Aug 1468, is a dispensation for Richard and Isabell Waterhouse, who have married and have children, although twice related in the fourth degree. It was issued by Phillip, cardinal-priest of S. Lawrence, January 10, 4th Paul 11. On September 2, John Brodelegh is ordered to marry them again without banns. He was one of the witnesses in the Will of his probably brother-in-law, Richard Shaw of Warley (Vol 5. Fol. 154) |
