The Ottumwa Courier, Ottumwa, IA, 08/03/2004: Richard Tullis OTTUMWA - Richard "Dick" Freeman Tullis, 77, of Marion, formerly of Ottumwa, died July 31, 2004, at home. He was born May 15, 1927, to Irving D. and Lettie M. (McGuire) Tullis in Ottumwa. He married Norma Lyons in Ottumwa. She preceded him in death in 1983. He was a 1943 he graduated of Ottumwa High School. He served with the U.S. Navy as a Gunner's Mate during WWII. He had been employed with Borden's Ice Cream as a regional supervisor for thirty-five years and for Hy-Vee as a back room manager for ten years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Low 12 Club, Ottumwa; member of the VFW Post No. 788, Cedar Rapids; member of the American Legion Post No. 298, Marion; and was a Mason. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Marion. Survivors include son, Mike Tullis and wife Rhonda of Marion; daughter, Pat Carleton and husband Brent of Savage, Minn.; three grandchildren, Brandon Carleton, Carolyn Trimble and Michael J. Tullis; two great- granddaughters, Cassie Tullis and Summer Marie Carleton; brother, Max Tullis and wife Donna of Columbus, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Beverly Tullis of Ottumwa; He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma; and brother, Robert D. Tullis. Funeral services will be10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion with the Rev. Del Bear with military rites. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Kilbourne Cemetery,Kilbourne. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the El Kahir Shrine Hospital Fund, 1400 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52402, in his memory. A special thanks to neighbors Gene and Sandy Richards for their help over the years.
