FROM THE WILL OF RICHARD TRETHEWEY dated 27 Jul 1732 proved 6 Oct 1741:
In the name of God amen I Richard Trethewy of the parish of St.Stephens in
Brannel in the county of Cornwall tyner being in sound and perfect memory
blessed be God for the same doe make and ordain this to be my last will and
testament (revoking all former wills made by me either by word or in writing)
in the manner and form following (viz)
IMP. I bequeath my soul into the hands of God Almighty that gave it me hoping
through the merit and mediation of my blessed saviour Jesus Christ to receive
full pardon for all my sins and my body to Christian buriall in such decent
order as my executor herein after named shall think fit
ITEM I give unto my son John Trethewy the house he now liveth in together
with the outhouse garden and town place belonging to the same likewise one
little meadow adjoying with the said garden, and the lower meadow adjoyning
to the said little meadow all which he shall enjoy at the end of one year
after my death for his natural life if the right in the same by virtue of
the lease and leases thereof hence so long continued, and after his death
to his children all the remainder of the term to be divided between them
share and share alike
ITEM I give unto my son William Trethewy and his children the dwelling house
he now liveth in together with the outhouse garden and town place belonging
to the same likewise one meadow adjoyning with the said town place all which
he and they shall enjoy at the end of one year after my death and I do hereby
further order that my son William shall not have any power to sell the same
ITEM I give unto my son Richard Trethewy all that one field called and known
by the name of Middle Close adjoyning with the meadow I gave to my sons as
above mentioned which he shall enjoy at the end of one year after my death
ITEM I give unto all my grand children to each of them one shilling
ITEM I give unto my dearly beloved wife Ann twenty shillings every year
during the time of her natural life to be paid her by quarterly payments,
and likewise I do order that my executor hereafter named shall find and
provide for my said wife during all the time of her natural life sufficient
and wholesome meat, drink, washing lodging and attendance at their own proper
cost and charges and she to have at her command the bed wee now useth to lye
in and furniture belonging to the same as long as she shall happen to live,
and after her death to my executors and further I doe order that in case she
shall not be easy to live with my executor or one of them and any difference
shall arise that then it shall be forthwith in her power to remove and in
case she doe remove that then and from the time of her removing my executor
shall pay her three pounds every year more than the above mentioned twenty
shillings by quarterly payments in lieu of her dyet and attendance during
the time of her natural life and doe hereby order my son John to pay one
third of all rates and taxes for the tenernt, wherein his is a part off, and
my son William and his children one third part and my son Richard one sixth
part and my executor one sixth part
ITEM I give unto my son James Trethewy and Walter Trethewy my grandson all
the rest of my estates, stock, goods, chattles, bills, bonds, moneys, and
accounts in what nature soever they are and doe make them joyntly my whole
and sole executors of this my last will and testament they paying all my
just and honest debts (if any) likewise paying
performing and fullfilling of this my last will and testament in manner and
form afores, in witness whereof I have hereinto put my hand and affixed my
seal this 27th day of July 1732.
