- Stevens, Richard - entered service 1777 Captain of Virginia company; died 2/3/1808' married 12/24/1782 to Mary Beverley Carter, Spotsylvania County, Virginia, by Reverend Ambrose Dudley; widow born 7/20/1781 [sic, s/b 1761 based upon other records]; granted Pension there in 1838, per County Justices of the Peace Lewis A. Boggs & Lewis L. Holladay; William White made affidavit then age 73 in Caroline County, Virginia, that soldier originally came from there per County Justice of the Peace Madison H. Jones & County Court Clerk John L. Pendleton; Spilsbe Woolfolk & Philip Samuel age 69 made affidavit there then, per County Justice of the Peace William S. Royston; soldier & wife's children's births (record torn & partially illegible): Lucy Carter 1/7/178-, Lewis 3/27/1785, Robert Carter 10/25/1786, Mary Chew 17--, Richard 17-- (died 12/16/1792), Metilday 15/5/17--, Richard T. 17--, Hiram 5/25/179-, & Horace 6/24/179-; children granted Bounty Land Warrant issued 7/23/1824; widow resided abt. age 82 in Hanover County, Virginia, 1843 [Note: establishes Mary Beverley Carter's birthdate as in 1761] per County Justice of the Peace Edmund Fontaine & County Court Clerk Philip B. Winston; widow died 6/25/1848 leaving children: Lucy Carter, Lewis, Judith M. Kimbrough, Hiram, & Horace; son-in-law Edward W. Kimbrouth applied for pension 1850 in Hanover County, Virginia, as administrator of her estate, per county Justice of the Peace John D.G. Brown; query letter in file states soldier served in 10th Virginia Regiment & in 6th Virginia Regiment; query letter in file 1908 from descendant Mrs. E.D. Kennedy of Atlanta, Georgia.
