    COAL STAGING COLLAPSES
    Workman Seriously Injured
    Mr. Richard Matthews, a volunteer
    wharf laborer, sustained a fractured
skull and a fractured thigh, while work-
ing at the McIlwraith, McEacharn coal
boat Kooringa, berthed in the Basin, at
Port Adelaide, on Tuesday morning. It
is believed that the accident was caused
through a falling tide giving the Koo-
ringa a list away from the wharf, caus-
ing the overhead coal platform to fall
on to the ship's deck. Mr. Matthews
fell on to an iron hatch beam on the
deck. He was taken to the Port Ade
    laide Casualty Hospital for attention,
and later removed to the Adelaide Hos-
    pital in a serious condition.
