Richard P. Kueter, 86, of 866 Salem St., passed over to join in spiritual life his wife, Eileen "Deanie," and two sons, Richard and Paul, on Saturday Aug. 2, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following surgery in Iowa City on July 3. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m. Mr. Kueter worked at John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement. He was born on July 22, 1917, in Otter Creek, Iowa, son of John Henry and Augusta (Eganhouse) Kueter. He married Eileen "Deanie" McCarthy on Nov. 24, 1943, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, La Motte, Iowa; she passed away on Dec. 5, 2000. Richard graduated from La Motte High School. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish. Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Melvin) Digman, of Dubuque; two daughters-in-law, Sue Smith, of Buffalo, Iowa, and Wanita Kueter, of Dubuque; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn (Russ) Schilling, of Dubuque; and four brothers, Heine (Millie) Kueter and Mark (Glenna) Kueter, both of Dubuque; Hugo Kueter, of Hollywood, Fla., and Jim (Rosie) Kueter, of Oklahoma. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard and Paul; and two brothers, Maurice and Cletus. A very special thank you to Dr. Ron Schope for the gentle, loving care given to Richard. The family would also like to thank the staff of Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque for the excellent care given to Richard, as well as the compassion shown to his family.
