Richard Dawson Heberling, "Dick", died June 30, 2003, at Foundation Park C are Center. Dick was born in 1923 on Franklin St in Fremont OH, the s on of Dawson Edwin and Esther Crowell Heberling. He is a direct descende nt of the Black Swamp pioneering Heberlings and Crowells of Washington a nd Sandusky Townships in Sandusky CO. Dick attended elementary school in Fremont and secondary school at Lakewo od High School in suburban Cleveland. His college career at Case Institu te of Technology was interrupted by WWII army service where he was in t he engineering corps at Louisiana State University and a fire fighter in E urope. After the war he graduated from Case with a degree in chemical engi neering and went to law school at Cleveland John Marshal, passing the b ar in 1954. He went into private patent law practice in Cleveland ti ll he accepted a position with the Owens-IL legal department in 1965 and r elocated to Northwest OH. He remained with O-I till retirement, after whi ch he worked at the law firm of Marshal & Melhorn for several years. Dick was an avid sports fan, especially of the Browns and Indians. He w as also an accomplished athlete. He wrestled at Case and became a distan ce runner as an adult. His first marathon was the first Glass City Marath on in 1974. Richard resided for many years in Whitehouse and lived the last two yea rs with his son, Dan and daughter-in-law, Terry in South Toledo. Daughte r, Marilynn and son, Rick, both of whom are out of town, survive him. In 1 949 he was married to Louise of Whitehouse, and she survives. Richard h as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in de ath by his parents, and brother, Ken. Arrangements are by the Reeb Funeral Home. There will be a Memorial servi ce at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Sylvania United Church of Christ, Erie near M onroe, with a gathering of friends one hour before. Memorials may be direc ted to The Family Fund at St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Oregon.
