During these four decades, one person who served as a staunch friend of the Refuge was Richard Golie. "Dick" kept watch over the marsh, worked with citizens, conservation groups and Refuge Managers to ensure that this wonderful area was protected for all of us to enjoy. His love for wildlife and the outdoors left a spirit that lives on here, and if you listen closely, the song of these prairie birds still call his name."
