Will of Richard Goldsmith, Dated 03 March 1781, Proven 06 June 1782 In the name of God Amen, I Richard Goldsmith of the County of Orange Precinct of New Cornwell and State of New York, being in perfect health and being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament and desire that it may be received by all as such imprimus I most humbly bequeath my soul to God my maker and beseeching his most gracious acceptance of it through the all sufficient merits and meditation of my most compassionate redeemer Jesus Christ who gave himself to be an atonement for my sins and is able to returning penitent sinner when I came to him for mercy in this hope and confidence I render up my soul with comfort humbly beseeching the most blessed and glorious trinity one god most mercifull and gracious to prepare me for the time of my desolution and then take me to himself give my body to the earth from whence it was taken in full assurance of its resurrection from thence at the last day as for my burial I desire it may be decent without pompe or state at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named who I doubt not will manage it with all requsite prudence as to my worldly Estate I will and positively order that all my debts be paid.I give unto my dearly and well beloved son Richard Goldsmith all that part or tract of land belonging to me lying on the south side of the of Goshen road together with all the buildings, orchards, woods, fences with all the appartenances whatsoever by him to be possesed and enjoy'd by his heirs and assigns forever and give unto my grandchildren James Goldsmith, Benjamin Goldsmith, Daniel Goldsmith, Richard Goldsmith, and Mary Goldsmith all the remainder of my Estate lying on the north side of Goshen road. To them and each of them their heirs executors administrators or assigns for ever and immediately after my decease I make and allow that they may have the full profit or benefit arising from said farm to their only proper use forever and I do herby impower my Executors herein after named for to sell and dispose the whole of said land lying and being on the north side of the Goshen road and for to pay unto my said grandchildren each their equal part of the money arising from the sale of said land as soon as they shall arrive at the years of discretion and in case of the death of any the said children then their part shall be equally divided among the surviving. And I allow the rent of the said land before it is sold to go to the use of said children and for to be a help to the widow of Benjamin Goldsmith deceased and to the said Benjamin Goldsmith, Junior may have the refusal of said land he paying as much as any other person with giving bonds for the same and paying the interest yearly for the benefit of said children and the widow and paying unto each of the children their equal part of the same as soon as they shall arrive at the proper years of discretion, and as for movable Estate wherein it hath pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath unto dearly beloved son Richard Goldsmith Junr one half of all my movable Estate that is allowing what he his with mine for to be all valued as one and then he drawing the one half and whatever furniture his wife brought along with her must be valued mine and then my son Richard for to have the one half of the whole and my three daughters, Susannah, Abigail, and Anne for to have equally divided on fourth part of the remainder and then my grandchildren belonging to Benjamin Goldsmith deceased is for to have the remainder of the whole each one drawing their equal parts as soon as they arrive of age and I gave unto my three daughters Susanna, Abigail, and Anne one right of the Sesquehannah purchase to be equally divided among them to their heirs, Executors, administrators, and assignss forever as it stands recorded in the company book and upon their delivering up their equal third part of their right unto my grandson Richard Goldsmith the third, to his only proper use and to his heirs and assigns forever that is Susannah and Abigail delivering up their one third of the aforementioned right unto my grandson Richard Goldsmith the third, then I will unto my said two daughters Susannah and Abigail one whole right a piece and to their only proper use to their heirs and assigns forever and I do hereby constitute Richard Goldsmith Junior, Edward Neely, Henry Wisner, and John Seers, Executors of this my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this third day of March and in the year of our Lord, Seventeen hundred and eighty one.
