Richard Godfrey settled in 1652 in that part of Taunton called Squawbetty, and probably had an interest in the ironworks there. On 5 Mar 1671/2, "Richard Godfrey, of Taunton" was sentenced to sit in the stocks for two hours for "speaking opprobriously of some." He is on a 1675 list of heads of families in Taunton, on list of proprietors in 1680, and among the "First Squadron" of the Military Company of Taunton in 1682.S1 [edit] WillWill of Richard Godfree, sen'r, of Taunton, dated 4 Oct. 1691, proved 17 Nov. 1691 gave To son Robert Godfree £5.
