Richard Cox was born about 1666 in Henrico Parish, Henrico County, Virginia, a son of John Cox.
He was of legal age (over 21 years) before 1 December 1688.
A planter (farmer), he owned land along the north side of the James River in 1689.
He patented 270 acres of "swamp, marsh and sunken ground" in Henrico Parish ("Varina Parish") on 28 April 1691.
He patented 2497 acres on the north side of the James River and along the south side of the western branch of Beaverdam Creek on 23 December 1714.
Richard Cox patented 167 acres on the north side of the James River in a fork of Tuckahoe Creek 16 August 1715.
He died in Henrico Parish, Henrico County, Virginia between the writing of his will on 13 July 1734 and its recording in February 1734/35.
