    Richard Clare his gift unto John Ashton.
    Know all men by these presents that I Richard Clare for and in consideration of my love and affection I bear unto John Ashton son unto Charles Ashton I give unto the said John Ashton one cow calf of a brown color marked the right ear cropt and under keeled and a slit in the crop the left ear cropt and under keeled, the said John Ashton for to have and to hold the said calf with her increase forever, Witness my hand the 20th of May 1654.

    In the name of God Amen, I William Renalls being in perfect memory make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, first I bequeath my soul into the hands of my Blessed Saviour Jesus Christ by whose merits and satisfaction I hope only to be saved. Concerning my land there being a parcel of five hundred and fifty acres it being in joint partnership with Richard Clare as yet undivided the one half whereof being three hundred twenty five acres which is my own proper I give and bequeath unto my two sons James and William equally to be divided between them after my wife Ann's decease.

    Item - I give unto my son William one cow with her future increase.

    Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann two cows.

    Item - I give unto my loving wife Ann all the remainder of my cattle together with my plantation that is my now dwelling being also in partnership with the said Richard Clare as yet undivided the one half whereof being my own proper I give to my loving wife forever with all the housing and buildings that is my part thereon and with all other priviledges there unto belonging or any way apportaining unto the said plantation.

    Item - I give and bequeath unto my wife Ann all my household stuffs both that which is divided and my part of that between me and the said Richard Clare as yet undivided together with my part or interest in all the presents that are in partnership with the said Richard.

    Item - I will that being deceased my body may be decently buried and that my wife cause a barren cow to be killed for the solemnizing of my funeral.

    Item - I give to my friend William Davis one cow calf to be delivered to him when he is four.

    Item - I will that the woods I bought of John Atherfall of Yorke be again returned fore as much as I understand that my wife hath disposed of the tobacco that should have paid for them and that upon delivery of the goods my bills betaken in.

    Lastly - I appoint and make my loving wife my executrix to see this my will fullfilled according to the full tenor thereof, furthermore whereas I have bought a young man from Yorke one Nicholas Owen to teach my children, having promised him house room and planting ground for the space of three years next ensueing together with meat drink lodgeing and washing during the said tearms of time. I will that my wife Ann see and cause it to be duly performed to and for the ratifieing and confirmation of the premisses, I the said Wm. Renalls have here unto set my hand this twenty fourth day of March one thousand five [?six] hundred fifty and four.

    20th of November 1655, this will was proved in open court by the oaths of Mr. Nicholas Morris and Nicholas Owen.

    Know all men by these presents that we Richard Clare of the County of Northumberland and Ann Reynolds of the same widow and guardian of the children of her husband deceased do acknowledge to have sold unto Nicholas Jumew his heirs and assignees forever one hundred acres of land laying in Yuocomicoe and next adjoining unto the plantation of the said Mr. Jumew and this writing shall bind us and either of us and either of our heirs and assignees that the said Nicholas Jumew his heirs and assignees shall hold occupy possess and enjoy the said one hundred acres of land without the let hinderance and molestation of us or either of us or either of our heirs and assignees and from the heirs of Wm. Reynolds deceased and all person or persons claiming by from or sender us or any of us forever by vertue of these presents. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals the 20th of November 1655.
