- ↑ {geni:event_description} Great Grandmother, Rhoda, died of a disease known then as Scroffulo or Scroffula. It was a cancer of the lymph glands and was centered in the neck area.. very painful way to die. She was 36 years old and left 5 little daughters to raise themselves with a little help from their maternal grandparents. Their father never worked and the older girls were farmed out to other families as servants after the death of their mother.
