[edit] Court RecordsPUBLIC RECORDS OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, OHIO CHANCERY RECORDS OF THE COURT OF COMMON PLEAS Record Book 11, Page 445 - Heard 10 September 1829 Howell Campbell vs. Jeremiah Wilson et al Reuben Campbell died about seven years ago and Howell Campbell was the administrator. The final settlement was made in June 1829 and Howell paid $272.63 due by the estate for which there was no provision. Reuben Campbell purchased the west half of the south-west quarter of Section 19 Township 5 Range11 (Urbana Tp.) from Obid and Samuel Ward; Samuel had purchased his share from his brother, John Ward and the land was originally own ed by Abijah Ward. Reuben sold 10 acres from the south-west corner, being 40 rods square, to Howell Campbell and Campbell needs a clear deed. Reuben did not receive a clear deed from the Wards; however, on 19 October 1825 Obid Ward gave a deed for his share to Reuben Campbell's heirs. Samuel Ward was deceased and his heirs did not live in Ohio. John Ward lived near Zanesville, Ohio. Reuben Campbell's heirs: Howell Campbell; Elizabeth, wife of Jeremiah Wilson of Indiana; Hannah, wife of Jonathan Helms/Holmes of Indiana; Margaret, wife of Hiram Real; Jonathan Campbell deceased left the following heirs: Jane Campbell, widow and son Albert Campbell (William Bayles was guardian ad litem). By 11 October 1830 the complainant dismissed the case as John Ward had made a deed to the Campbell heirs. The court ordered the [that?] Howell was to receive a deed for the 10 acres. The court appointed appraisers, James Rawlins, Samuel Goldsmith and Benjamin Sweet, valued the rest of the land at $168 on 8 November 1830. On I February 1831 Howell Campbell purchased the remainder of the land for $113. Rootsweb.com Image Gallery
