Person:Return Strong (1)

Both Dwight and Stiles, who for the most part follows Dwight, assign the second wife of the first Return (1641-1726) to his son Return (1669-1708) and, further, assign various Strong children to the incorrect parents. In 1959, Donald Lines Jacobus corrected the Dwight/Stiles errors.

   His will, dated 10 Apr. 1719, proved 5 May 1726, names his sons Samuel and Benjamin; his six daughters Sarah, Abigail, Elizabeth, Dameras, Hannah, and Margaret (no married names stated); and grandson John Warham Strong [Manwaring's Digest, 2:586]."

   "11-12. … Return Strong (son of Elder John Strong and Abigail Ford) b. in 1640-1, m. May 11, 1664, Sarah Warham b. Aug. 28, 1642 (dau. of Rev. John and Jane Warham of Windsor): a tanner at Windsor and a man of large estate. She d. Dec. 26, 1678, aged 36. He m. a second time, but whom or when then author has not been able to find [Margaret Newberry, b. Oct. 23, 1662 (dau. of Maj. Benjamin and Mary (Allyn) Newberry of Windsor)]. He removed in his later years to Northampton [No independent evidence appears to support this statement]. He d. April 9, 1726."

He m. 23 May 1689, Margaret Newbury, d. of Maj. Benjamin, had Joseph, b. 1694, d. young; Hannah; Margaret, 1700; and Benjamin, 1703. He had large est. and d. 9 Apr. 1726; in his will, of 1719, he names the liv. s. Samuel and Benjamin, six ds. and also the childr. of s. Return wh. had dec. 1708. Both John and Return are in the list of freem. 1669, and the latter was one of the returning officers."

   10 April, 1719: I, Return Strong of Windsor, do make this my last will and testament: To my son Samuel Strong I give and bequeath and to his heirs and assigns forever, all my land with the priviledges and the appurtenances thereof, lying on the south side of the Little River, which was formerly Mr. Warham's, which I bought of Mr. Stoddard. I give to my son Samuel 4 1-2 acres of my lott in the Great Meadow, which was Mr. Warham's. I give to my son Benjamin Strong my house and homestead lying on the north side of the Little River, and the lott that lyeth in the Great Meadow near the Ferry, being about 8 acres, and 6 acres in the lower lott next the Little River in the Great Meadow. I give to my 6 daughters, Sarah, Abigail, Elizabeth, Dameras, Hannah and Margaret, £60 apiece with what they have received already. I give to my grandson, John Warham Strong, 5 shillings. I appoint my son Samuel Strong sole executor.
