1. Cuca was well-off in Spain. At age 15 she was sent to Tuxpan for an arranged marriage to Julio who was the Alcalde of the city. Very light herself, she was devastated to find that Julio was Indio. His statue in Old Tuxpan shows him in a cape and feathered hat. She walked behind him several paces. Townspeople would bow to him.
2. They lived in a big house. When Julio died, his family threw Cuca and her 3 children out on the street. She then had to go to work as a servant in her former home. When her children were in their teens, she brought them to Phoenix (perhaps 1921?) Amparo and José went to school in Phoenix. (Minnie 6/19/99)
