Rebecca Jane Upfold was born on 21st January 1830 in the Hoxton area close to the city of London, daughter of a book binder named William Upfold and his wife Rebecca. Young Rebecca appears in the 1841 census living in nearby Finsbury with her father and a woman who may have been a stepmother.
Rebecca was married in 1849 to a Charles Edwards who was from Pagham on the Sussex coast. They married in Sussex and appear in the 1851 census living in the city of Chichester, with Charles working as a boot maker. They went on to have two daughters in 1853 and 1855, both named Lydia Cecilia. Both died young. Neither Charles nor Rebecca have been traced after the death of their second daughter in 1855.

Whilst no named connection has been found, this baptism has been linked to the Rebecca Jane Upfold who married Charles Edwards on the basis that in the census after their marriage Rebecca gave her place of birth as 'Hoxton Old Town', corresponding with the Hoxton residence quoted on this baptism at the right time. The name is also relatively distinctive.
Hoxton was a settlement within the parish of Shoreditch.
