Facts and Events
There is no marriage record of Rebecca to Thomas Wheeler that would indicate her maiden name. The will of William Sayre dated 8 Aug 1572 is very detailed and names all his children. No mention is made of a daughter named Rebecca. The family has been reviewed in The American Genealogist, John Brooks Threlfall, Fifty Great Migration Colonists to New England and Their Origin and by Raymond David Wheeler. No author claims her maiden name is known. All we do know is that Thomas Wheeler names his wife Rebecca in his will and the burial of a Rebecca Wheeler is recorded. Therefore please do not add a maiden name or parents without presenting evidence to support the claim. In fact in Raymond David Wheeler, The Wheeler genealogy : the Wheeler family of Cranfield, Bedfordshire, settlers of colonial New England (Dolgeville, New York: Kinsystems, 1993) the author notes "A Rebecca Nash, dau. of Richard and Annis (Wethered) Nash, bp. at Hemel Hempstead, Herts., 4 June 1581 (IGI), was of suitable age to be a second wife."
