Baptismal records state the Rebecca's mother was Ann Sheering while the Civil Registration listed her mother has Mary Sheerin. According to the O'Doherty and Inishowen Geneology Center, it was quite common to find listings of the same person using different names.

The baptismal records also show that Thomas Murray and Ann Sheering lived in Moress townland as did her godparents, Charles Gallagher and Margaret Murray.
