Facts and Events
Raymond operated a gas station and a garage. He also served as a security guard at various times. He served as a Justice of the Peace in Aullville, MO at one time. Raymond and Hazel Greenstreet Winfrey had three daughters. Helen and Mildred, as well as eight of the twelve grandchildren succumbed to leukemia. All of the eight grandchildren who had leukemia died between the ages of 15 and 30. Several studies were conducted and the reason that so many children of one family and in the same generation contracted leukemia has not been determined. According to a letter written by Dora G. Winfrey on Aug 19, 1956, Raymond and his sister Hazel Vern Winfrey Kennedy were born on the Winfrey family farm of their grandmother, Nancy E. Carey Winfrey about 5 miles east of Carrollton. the doctor in attendance was Dr. Williams of Standish, Missouri. References
