Vance was born in Doddridge County May 28, 1957, a son of the late Raymond Vance Jackson Sr. and Mary Jo McMillion Jackson. Vance remained a lifelong resident of Doddridge County. Despite a hunting accident that resulted in the loss of his left leg at the age of fourteen, he enjoyed a distinguished football career with the Doddridge County High School Bulldogs. After high school, Vance attended The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his DVM in 1985. He returned to Doddridge County shortly thereafter and served his community as a veterinarian for many years. He is survived by three children, Jessica Williams of Parkersburg, Matthew DeVore of Parkersburg and Whitney Randolph-Ash of Weston; three brothers, Jim Jackson of Mt. Gilead, OH, Larry Jackson of Parkersburg and Denzil Hawkinberry of Bridgeport; three sisters, Lila June Jackson of West Union, Iva Marie (Jackson) Partridge of West Union and Tiwana Hawkinberry of Aiken, SC; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Saundra (Jackson) Swisher. Vance loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He felt most at home when he was in the woods or along the creek bank. He pursued his many interests with focus and dedication. He laughed often, and he lived his life entirely on his own terms. He was a strikingly intelligent man with a deep sense of compassion. Vance’s request for cremation has been honored. His family will have a private Celebration of Life Service at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be sent directly to his family c/o Matt Devore, 1440 20th St., Parkersburg, WV 26101. In memory of Vance’s love and dedication to animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Doddridge County Humane Society, 1286 Wisemans Run Road, Salem WV 26426. References
