Ralph I. Litts Expires in South Monticello Man Was in U. S. Service Monticello, Jan. 2--Ralph Irving Litts, son of Daniel A. and Sarah F. Litts, died Friday about noon at Camp Gordon, in the Military Base Hospital at Atlanta, Ga. Young Litts was only twenty-seven years old, and left Monticello in company with one hundred other young Sullivan county boys who were given a royal send-off by Sullivan county's patriotic citizens on October 5th. Irving had been transferred from Camp Dix to the southern camp some time ago and during the past few days contracted the measles and before he had gained recovery, pneumonia set in, which caused his death. The deceased had written his father a letter shortly after Christmas, thanking him for the box sent him, and in this letter the boy informed his father of his sickness and told him that he would be forced to spend his Christmas in the hospital. This was the first intimation the father had received that his boy was sick. Later as the days went by pneumonia developed and the lad passed away Friday at noon. Mrs. Litts, the boy's mother, died about two years ago, and the father is the only member of the family living. He is the owner of a large farm near Sackett Lake and was keeping this for his son after the boy had returned from war. The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church, Wednesday afternoon. Interment at Rock Ridge cemetery. Ralph Irving Litts is the first Sullivan county member of Uncle Sam's army to give his life in defence of his country. References
