Rev. Ralph W. Hoffmeyer Sr.

The Rev. Ralph W. Hoffmeyer Sr., 82, of Brunswick, Ga., died on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. He was born on Jan. 16, 1925, in Port Huron, Mich., and was a son of the late Leonard and Clara Schultz Hoffmeyer. The Rev. Hoffmeyer served as a Lutheran pastor for nearly 50 years, with pastorates in South Carolina, Florida, Virginia and Georgia. He was pastor of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Luray from 1964-1982 and was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. On Jan. 1, 1947, he married the former Eloise Meadows, who preceded him in death. He is survived by two children, John Hoffmeyer of Philadelphia, Pa., and Maria "Melinda" Hoffmeyer of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; a sister, Phyllis Myron of Weaverville, N.C.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph William "Bill" Hoffmeyer Jr. A memorial service was conducted on Saturday, Sept. 29, at St. James Lutheran Church in Brunswick by the Rev. Julian Gordy, bishop of the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Memorial contributions may be sent to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal through St. Mark Lutheran Church, 201 E. Main Street, Luray, Va. 22835.
