Ralph S Boggs, born June 6, 1917, son of Sarah and Nolan Boggs, died Janua ry 1, 2004. He attended Franklin Elementary School and Waite High Schoo l. He played varsity football as quarterback in 1932, 1933 and 1934. In 19 34, he was a co-captain of the Waite High School team, along with the la te Dr. George Maurer. In each of the years he played, Waite won the City C hampionship. In 1934, by a vote of the fans, he was voted All City Quarter back. In November of 1995, he was inducted into the Toledo High School Ath letic League Hall of Fame for his Waite High School football career. He al so was elected a member of the National Honor Society as a junior. Ralph attended Denison University in Granville OH, graduating wi th an AB degree in 1939. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and al so Blue Key National Honorary Fraternity. He played quarterback on the Den ison Varsity teams in 1936, 1937 and 1938. Following graduation in Ju ne of 1939, he attended the University of MI Law School, graduating in Feb ruary of 1942. While in law school, he married his college sweetheart fr om Denison, Mary Frances Wiggins, on September 7, 1940. Ralph passed the OH Bar in January of 1942. He, along with other senior s, were permitted to take the bar examination before graduating from law s chool because of World War II. He was admitted to the Bar of OH on Februa ry 11, 1942. He worked with the law firm of Boggs and Winchester until Ju ne of 1942, when he was sworn in as a Special Agent of the Federal Bure au of Investigation, U.S Department of Justice. He resigned from the F.B .I in December 1945 to return to Toledo. During his F.B.I service, he serv ed for two years in counter-espionage work in connection with the Atom Bo mb while assigned to the Chicago Office of the F.B.I On January 1, 1946, he entered into a law partnership with his father, Nol an Boggs, and his brother, Howard W Boggs, under the name of Boggs, Bog gs and Boggs. This partnership continued thru the death of his father, Nol an Boggs, in 1967 until 1972 when he and his brother incorporated their fi rm as Boggs, Boggs and Boggs CO L.P.A In 1972, Howard's son, John, join ed the family firm, which continued until his brother, Howard, retir ed in 1987. Since then, Ralph has been associated with Eastman & Smith, Lt d., Attorneys, in an "of counsel" capacity. During his more than 52 years of practice, Ralph handled more than 400 con demnation and appropriation cases, trying many of them. He was consider ed a specialist in this area. He was looked upon as an excellent civil tri al attorney who recovered many record verdicts in wrongful death and perso nal injury cases. He tried, to a jury, over 150 civil cases. In later year s, he confined his practice to Estate Planning and Probate work. He was a member of the American OH State, Toledo, and Lucas CO Bar Associ ations. He served on several Toledo Bar Association Committees. He was al so a member of the American and OH Trial Lawyers Associations. For yea rs he has been listed in "Who's Who in America" and "Who's Who in Americ an Law". He was a very active Mason. He was a member of Barton Smith Lod ge F & A.M, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo. He was coronated as Honorary 3 3rd Degree Mason in 1968. He belonged to Fort Miami Chapter, Calumet Counc il and St. Omer's Commandery in the York Rite. He was a past Soverei gn of St. Thomas Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine. He belonged to the Ze nobia Shrine Temple and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was a member of t he Maumee Presbyterian Church since 1946, where he served several ter ms as Trustee and Elder. He served as Secretary of the Masonic Toledo Tru st since 1985. He was Assistant Secretary of the Board of Directors of t he Otis Avery Browning Masonic Memorial Fund and Home. He was a Life Memb er and Past President of the Greater Toledo Advisory Board of the Salvati on Army. He was a long time member of the Heatherdowns Country Club serving for ma ny years as a Director and three terms as President. He was elected as a m ember of the Maumee Board of Education for 16 years serving as President f our times. He was a founder of the Maumee Republican Party Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and a brother, Howard. His sur vivors include his daughter, Sally Boggs Bashore of Worthington; son s, Wm of San Diego, and Robert of Maumee, and seven grandchildren, Wend y, Jeff, Kurt, Breann, Mike, Brian, and Brett. Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St ., Maumee, on Friday, January 9, 2004, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. where fu neral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Barton Smith Lod ge F & A.M, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo will conduct services on Frid ay evening at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, Maume e OH; Otis Avery Browning Masonic Memorial Home, Waterville OH; Toledo B ar Association Foundation, or the charity the donor's choice.
